Germany’s Helen Kevric, Ukraine’s Radomyr Stelmakh, the Romanian women’s team and the Italian men’s team triumphed at the 16th European Youth Olympic Festival taking place this week in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.

Kevric edged Amalia Puflea of Romania for the women’s all-around gold, and Stelmakh bettered Italy’s Riccardo Villa by 0.05 points to take the men’s all-around title.

Kevric, who turned 14 on March 21, trains under coaches Giacomo Camitiotti, Marie-Luise Probst-Hindermann at MTV Stuttgart. Earlier this year she placed first all-around, first on uneven bars and first on balance beam in the age 14 division at the German Junior Championships; and second on uneven bars in the junior division at the DTB Pokal in Stuttgart.

Puflea, Amalia Ghigoarta and Sabina Voinea comprised Romania’s gold medal-winning women’s team that outscored silver medalist Germany and bronze medalist Italy.

Kevric added three additional medals to her collection in the apparatus finals, where she took gold on vault and silvers on uneven bars and floor exercise. Martina Pieratti of Italy placed first on uneven bars, and Pulfea won golds on balance beam and floor exercise.

Stelmakh, a 17-year-old from Zaporizhzhya, was a member of the gold medal-winning Ukrainian team at the 2020 European Junior Championships, where he placed seventh all-around in qualifications and sixth in the pommel horse final. Last year he was third all-around at the eG Wohnen Juniors Trophy in Cottbus, Germany.

Villa, Tommaso Brugnami and Davide Oppizzio combined to take the men’s team title over silver medalist Great Britain and bronze medalist Switzerland.

Stelmakh went on to earn three more medals in the apparatus finals, winning silvers on floor exercise and pommel horse, and bronze on parallel bars.

Men’s apparatus champions were Danny Crouch of Great Britain on floor exercise, Kristijonas Padegimas of Lithuania on pommel horse, Luis Il-Sung Melander of Sweden on still rings, Joona Reiman of Finland on vault, Jukka Ole Nissinen of Germany on parallel bars and Dmytro Dotsenko of Israel on horizontal bar.
