Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin (U.S.) walked the runway Friday in Max Azria at the Red Dress Collection 2009, which kicked off the spring shows at New York Fashion Week.

Nastia Liukin models a Max Azria design in The Heart Truth Red Dress collection as Fashion Week kicked off Feb. 13 in New York.

Liukin modeled a Max Azria dress as part of the annual Heart Truth Red Dress Collection, a runway show that raises funds for and awareness of heart disease in women. Other celebrities taking part included Hilary Duff in Donna Karan, Patricia Arquette in Nicole Miller, Kristi Yamaguchi in Vera Wang, Amanda Bynes in Daniel Swarovski, and Katie Couric in Carmen Marc Volvo.

The 19-year-old gymnast is the star of Max Azria's spring Web campaign, which made its official debut Friday.

"The spring collection was inspired by movement and modern dance so she was perfect. It was meant to be, and the magic just sort of happened," said the company's creative director Lubov Matsevitskaya Azria, a native of Ukraine.

Liukin returned to Texas following the show for this weekend's WOGA Classic. Liukin and former WOGA clubmate Carly Patterson, the 2004 Olympic all-around champion, participated in an autograph session Saturday.

Following extensive media appearances and a cross-country tour, Liukin has returned to training six hours a day. She also is attending college, taking two classes this spring at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Liukin hopes to compete at the U.S. Championships in Dallas this summer and the 2009 World Championships in London in the fall.
