Dragulescu, 35, Is Still Young at Heart

Eight-time world champion Marian Dragulescu of Romania told IG that, at age 35, he still feels youthful as he prepares for this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

“I consider myself younger than many gymnasts who are younger than me,” said Dragulescu, who earned an individual berth to the 2016 Rio Olympics by virtue of his second-place finish on vault at last fall’s world championships in Glasgow. “Sport means to me, among other qualities, health and youth.”

In an effort to finally win the Olympic gold medal that has eluded him in the past, Dragulescu told IG he is training three vaults, two of which are not in the Code of Points. (He would not say what they were!)

Read “Golden Quest,” an in-depth interview with Dragulescu, in the January/February 2016 issue of International Gymnast magazine. To subscribe to the print and/or digital editions of IG magazine, click here.
