2015 U.S. junior all-around champion Lauren Hernandez is eager for 2016 to begin, and cites next summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro as one of her goals.

“ I have been waiting my whole life for this next year,” said Hernandez, who in 2015 placed first all-around in the junior division at the City of Jesolo Trophy meet in Italy, first all-around in the junior division at the P&G (U.S.) championships and first all-around at the Japan Junior Invitational.

Hernandez, who is coached by Maggie Haney at MG Elite in New Jersey, said she is ready to take on the challenge of senior competition. She aims for a top-five all-around finish at the 2016 U.S. championships, and then a chance to compete in Rio.

“Gymnastics is gymnastics,” Hernandez said. “It doesn’t matter if I am a junior or a senior. I just have to do what I can do.”

Read “Human Emoji,” an in-depth profile on Hernandez, in the November 2015 issue of International Gymnast magazine.
