Newly crowned British all-around champion Becky Downie was one of six women named Sunday to represent Great Britain at the Olympic Games in August in Beijing.

Downie, who easily won the senior all-around title at the British Gymnastics Championships held this weekend in Guildford, was one of six gymnasts selected by the British Olympic Association (BOA) to compete in Beijing.

The other five members of the team are Laura Jones, Marissa King, Beth Tweddle, Hannah Whelan and Rebecca Wing. Traveling reserves are Imogen Cairns and Kayleigh Cooke.

"I can't describe how happy I am, and can't stop crying!" Downie said. "It's a massive relief and shows that all the hard work has been worth it."

Downie, the 2007 British junior champion and a two-event finalist at this spring's European Championships, finished 2.850 points ahead of runner-up Wing for the British title. Wing placed second to Downie in the junior division last year.

Whelan earned the bronze medal, having placed fourth in the junior division in 2007.

Aisling Williams, the 2006 champion and 2007 bronze medalist, finished seventh.

Last year's silver medalist, Hannah Clowes, finished 11th.

Seven-time British all-around champion Beth Tweddle, a 2004 Athens Olympian who competed only on uneven bars at the British Championships, said she is confident that the British team can perform well in Beijing.

"The team's been together for a long time now and I definitely feel we can have positive results," she said.

Tweddle is the only active member of the 11th-place British team from the 2004 Games.

At the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, the British women placed seventh, their best team finish in Worlds history.

The British men's team placed 15th, qualifying two individuals. and 2008 Junior European champion Daniel Keatings and 2007 world pommel horse bronze medalist Louis Smith will represent the British men in Beijing.

Venezuela's 2008 Olympic qualifier Jessica Lopez competed as a guest in Guildford, placing ninth.
