Montreal Among Bidders for 2017 Worlds
(2 votes, average 5.00 out of 5)

Montreal is among the bidders for the 2017 World Gymnastics Championships, which would coincide with the city's 375th anniversary. The city has already been the site of historic moments in the sport of gymnastics. At the 1976 Olympics, Nadia Comaneci scored the first perfect 10 in Olympic history. At the 1985 Worlds in Montréal, Soviets Oksana Omelianchik and Yelena Shushunova became the first and only pair thus far to tie for the world all-around title.

Other nations reportedly bidding for 2017 are Mexico, Qatar and the United States (which played host to the 1979, 1991 and 2003 Worlds).

The 2014 World Championships take place in the Chinese city of Nanning and the 2015 Worlds in Glasgow.
