DTB Cup champions Elizabeth Price (U.S.) and Marcel Nguyen (Germany) won again Saturday at the FIG World Cup in Glasgow, Scotland. The Glasgow World Cup, one of three World Cup all-around competitions in 2012, was the final FIG competition of 2012. Both champions repeating their rankings from last weekend's DTB Cup in Stuttgart, where the field of gymnasts was almost identical. In Glasgow, Canada's Kaitlyn Hofland and Japan's Wakane Inoue replaced Switzerland's Giulia Steingruber (third in Stuttgart) and Russia's Kristina Goryunova (seventh in Stuttgart), while Japan's Yusuke Saito replaced Russian David Belyavsky (also third in Stuttgart). Price once again topped Germany's Elisabeth Seitz, though she extended her lead by more than 4 1/2 points. Price, who trains at Parkettes Gymnastics in Pennsylvania, had the highest score on every event in Glasgow, including a high of 15.900 for her booming Amanar vault. Seitz underperformed compared with Stuttgart, where she had put together four solid routines. She barely held off Olympic teammate Kim Bui by a margin of .067. Former world champion Vanessa Ferrari took fourth, breaking 14 on only floor exercise. British national champion Rebecca Tunney placed fifth ahead of British Olympic alternate Niamh Rippin, with Inoue and Hofland rounding out the field. Nguyen scored slightly less than he had in Stuttgart, and topped Japanese Olympian Kazuhito Tanaka by just .1. Nguyen, who won silvers in the all-around and on parallel bars at this past summer's Olympic Games, had the top marks on still rings (15.333) and p-bars (peach, peach full, peach half, giant full, giant double tuck; Stutz, double tuck from upper arms; double pike; 15.833). He also had the top score still rings. He uncharacteristically struggled on high bar, however, taking deductions after he went the wrong way on high bar after a Tak-full and for a short landing on his dismount. Purvis, second in Stuttgart and the defending Glasgow champion, fell on his floor exercise dismount (double front) in the first rotation. He competed well on the other events, topped off by the best score on vault (Yurchenko 2 1/2 with a step). Saito (Tak-half immediate Kolman; Cassina) and Tanaka (Tak-half to layout Tkatchev; Kolman) went 1-2 on high bar, upholding Japan's reputation on the event. Spaniard Fabian Gonzalez took fourth ahead of Olympic all-around bronze medalist Danell Leyva of the U.S. (fall on double layout dismount on floor) and Saito. British Olympian Kristian Thomas led after the first rotation with 15.800 on floor exercise with stuck tumbling (double-twisting front to front 1 3/4; piked Arabian double front; 2 1/2 to front full; whip to layout Arabian; double Arabian), but 11.966 on pommel horse and an overrotated Yurchenko double pike vault left him at the bottom of the rankings. In addition to its annual World Cup competition, Glasgow will play host to several significant events in the upcoming quadrennium, including the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 World Championships.
