Olympic silver medalist Marcel Nguyen (Germany) won the men's all-around gold, while the Russian women scrambled to victory in the team contest Sunday at the 30th DTB Cup in Stuttgart.

Nguyen, the poster boy for the event, thrilled the home crowd with his World Cup victory. Nguyen, who trains in Stuttgart with coach Valery Belenki, claimed victory over Olympians Daniel Purvis (Great Britain) and David Belyavsky (Russia).

The men's contest still featured a top-notch field, even with the late withdrawal of Olympic king Kohei Uchimura because of a sore shoulder and ankle. Six of the seven gymnasts competing in Stuttgart finished in the top 10 in London's Olympic all-around final: Nguyen (second), American Danell Leyva (third), Belyavsky (fifth), Japan's Kazuhito Tanaka (sixth), Great Britain's Kristian Thomas (seventh) and Spain's Fabian Gonzalez (ninth).

Nguyen performed cleanly with few mistakes, but won by nearly a full point thanks to his surge on the final two events. He stepped out of bounds on floor exercise and out of the area on vault to sit third after four rotations behind Purvis and Belyavsky. Nguyen scored a massive 15.566 on parallel bars, the event where he earned his second Olympic silver medal in London. He played it safe by not throwing the full-twisting double dismount, but outscored Purvis by nearly a full point to shave the British gymnast's lead down to just a couple of tenths.

On the final event, Nguyen delivered a 6.6-Difficulty high bar set (Kovacs; stuck layout double-double) to clinch the title (15.600). Purvis performed well (14.533/6.1) but couldn't match that score on his weakest event.

Tanaka had the chance to take the title had he stayed on pommel horse, but he swallowed a 13.500 there to finish fourth, just barely a point out of first. Leyva outscored the field on high bar, but it wasn't enough to overcome his struggles on the first two events, and he finished fifth.

Gonzalez and Thomas rounded out the World Cup field. Thomas had the top scores on floor exercise and vault (booming Yurchenko double pike with a step) but his 12.800 on pommel horse ended his medal chances in this deep field.

Second in Friday's qualification, Russia managed to win the women's team final that followed the World Cup. In the first rotation, Anna Rodionova jumped off uneven bars after her Pak salto and left the arena for medical treatment. Russia's original lineup had only Rodionova and Kristina Goryunova on vault and floor, leaving the team no room to drop a score. The team was forced to think quickly and rearrange its lineup. Yulia Inshina, who did not compete in Friday's qualification, was pulled off the bench for a floor routine in the third rotation.

And though she had not been prepared to vault in Stuttgart, world and Olympic champion Aliya Mustafina elected to compete a simple layout Yurchenko in the fourth rotation that was enough to give Russia the title by under a point. As during qualification, Mustafina again had the top score on uneven bars and the second-best mark on balance beam behind Goryunova.

The Japanese team took second over two German squads, with the Japanese gymnasts again outscoring the field on floor exercise.

The Germans were unable to repeat their showing from qualification, when Germany 1 topped Russia for first. Lisa-Katharina Hill, who competed four events for Germany 1 on Friday, was unable to compete and was replaced by Anja Rheinbay from the second German squad.

The 2012 FIG World Cup series concludes next weekend in Glasgow with another all-around event.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
