Gymnasts from Romania's famed Cetate Deva club won two of three all-around titles on Saturday at the 17th Alpen Adria Cup in Klagenfurt, Austria.

This year's event attracted more than 65 junior gymnasts representing 19 clubs in eight nations. The gymnasts were divided into three age groups for all-around awards, with an additional team contest among the eldest group.

The German club SSV Ulm claimed the team title. Defending champion Deva, which sent only two gymnasts in that age group, took second over a trio of gymnasts from Salzburg.

Serbian standout Tamara Mrdjenović won the all-around in the 1997-1998 age group, topping Germans Nicole Ster (TV Detmold) and Jannika Greber (SSV Ulm). Mrdjenović, 14, trains under coach Aleksandar Pandurov at SD Vojvodina in Novi Sad. She was 44th in qualification at the 2012 Junior Europeans in Brussels.

Asiana Peng — already one of Romania's top hopes for the 2016 Olympics — won the 1999-2000 age group. Peng had major breaks on bars (9.65) and beam (11.80), but had the top scores on vault (13.10 for piked Tsukahara) and floor exercise (double pike; double tuck, 1 1/2 punch front, double twist; 13.55).

Born to a Chinese father and Romanian mother, the 12-year-old Peng won the all-around and two events in her age group at the Romanian junior championships in October. Peng — whose first name is pronounced "Oss-ee-on-a" — is coached at Cetate Deva by Luciana Menciu, Cristinel Micu and nine-time world champion Gina Gogean.

German gymnasts finished second and third in this age group as well. Kaja Gutzeit (TV Detmold) took second ahead of Alexandra Siegfried (SC Laichingen).

Another Deva gymnast, Olivia Cîmpian, won the 2001-2003 age group, with the top beam score of the day (13.35). The daughter of well-known soccer coach Marcel Cîmpian, the gymnast has been making headlines all her life. She was born three weeks early on the morning of Jan. 1, 2001, making her the first "Millennium" baby in Arad county. Journalists arrived at the hospital eager to film her, and parents Marcel and Georgeta were awarded a cash prize from a local newspaper.

Swiss gymnasts Livia Schmid and Anina Wildi (Aargauer TV) gymnasts won silver and bronze, respectively, behind Cîmpian.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
