Zeng Siqi and Deng Shudi won the all-around titles Thursday and Friday at the 2012 Chinese Individual National Championships in Kunming.

Zeng Siqi

Zeng, a first year senior and Olympic contender, claimed her first national title with four hit routines, while all five members of China's Olympic team sat out the competition. According to coach He Hua's social media account, Zeng is in great shape and the only things stopped her from debuting her piked full-in salto on floor is a minor pain in her leg and altitude sickness. Kunming has an altitude of 6,200 feet — just a little higher than the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Zeng, who turned 16 in May, won the all-around titles at the 2011 Chinese Junior Championships and 2011 Russian-Chinese Youth Games. She was formerly coached by 1999 world balance beam champion Ling Jie before moving to the national training center in Beijing.

Second and third in all-around were Huang Huidan and Shang Chunsong (Shaposhinikova on bars, fall on beam), both first-year seniors.

The only Olympian competing in Kunming is Tan Sixin, 2010 Youth Olympic Games gold medalist and alternate to China's 2012 Olympic team. He Hua said Tan did great despite gaining a weight gain after returning from Northern Ireland, where the Chinese gymnasts trained before London.

Former junior standout Cui Jie returned to place seventh all-around.

On the men's side, the 21-year-old Deng won the all-around title with with 89.650, followed by Zhou Shixiong and Yang Shengchao. None of the members of China's gold medal-winning team from the recent Olympics are set to compete but two former world champions — 2009 world pommel horse champion Zhang Hongtao and 2009 parallel bars champion Wang Guanyin — both topped their specializing events in qualifications.

Competition continues in Kunming with the event finals Saturday and Sunday.
