(8 votes, average 4.50 out of 5)

Vanessa Ferrari and Enrico Pozzo each won a sixth national all-around title Saturday at the 2012 Italian Gymnastics Championships in Catania, Sicily.

Women's all-around medalists Ferlito, Ferrari and Menghini

Ferrari, the 2006 world champion, scored 56.85 to take her sixth overall title since 2005 (2005-2007, 2009, 2011-2012). Carlotta Ferlito, who had been second in 2011, was the runner-up again (55.95). Junior Elisa Meneghini won the bronze (55.00).

"It was a close race until the end with Carlotta," Ferrari said. "On vault I did my double twist, which is not easy even when you're in top physical shape. Today it was important to test my fitness level for London, but I must admit that it went very well."

Ferrari is now tied with Laura Bortolaso (1979-1984) for second on the all-time list of Italian champions, behind only seven-time winner Miranda Cicognani (1956-1962).

2000 Olympian Adriana Crisci, 30, returned to competition after a 10-year absence to finish 10th. Crisci, who won the Italian title in 1996 and 2000, qualified second to Sunday's vault final.

Pozzo, a 2004 and 2008 Olympian, won his sixth title since 2003 (2003-2005, 2007, 2011-2012), putting him in a tie for second with Italian greats Franco Menichelli (1960, 1962-1966) and Jury Chechi (1989-1993, 1995). Pozzo will need two more victories to tie all-time titlist Figone Guido (1947-1955).

"I'm happy," Pozzo said. "This was the goal, to chase the legends of Italian gymnastics. In view of the Olympic Games, I will try to increase the value of the routines where possible. I had a good competition, no doubt, but there is still room for improvement."

Paolo Principi, fifth in 2011, won the silver over Andrea Cingolani, fourth last year.

Competition concludes Sunday with the apparatus finals.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
