![]() Céline van Gerner and Epke Zonderland brought gold medals to the Netherlands on Sunday at the 45th Šalamunov Memorial, an FIG Challenger Cup held in Maribor, Slovenia. Van Gerner, who won uneven bars title on Saturday, added the balance beam gold to her haul in Maribor. Zonderland took the gold medal on high bar and finished fourth on parallel bars. Both Dutch gymnasts further their quest to represent the Netherlands at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and appear to be frontrunners for the nominations. The other contenders, female Wyomi Masela and male Jeffrey Wammes, both reportedly suffered hyperextended knees on vault Friday during qualification in Maribor. Croatian Olympian Tina Erceg won the women's floor exercise gold medal and China's Lin Chaopan won men's vault. Slovenian veteran Mitja Petkovšek won parallel bars for the host nation. Polish gymnasts picked up four silvers: Katarzyna Jurkowska (balance beam), Marta Pihan-Kulesza (women's floor exercise), Marek Lyszczarz (men's vault) and Adam Kierzkowski (parallel bars). The FIG Challenger Cup series continues next weekend in Ghent, Belgium. External Link: Official Website 45th Šalamunov Memorial/FIG Challenger Cup

Zonderland start value Heavens - a 7.9 start value from Zonderland?!?! If he hadn't had a break of form in the middle that score would have been even higher. Go Epke, repeat that in London, even an uneducated Olympic crowd will realise that routine is phenomenal. |
