Romania upstart Larisa Iordache led Romania to first place over Germany and Great Britain at a tri-meet held Saturday in Ulm, southwest Germany.

Clad in new black and cyan leotards; the Romanians trounced their hosts by nearly 12 points, scoring 174.25 to Germany's 162.75. Great Britain was third with 160.45.

Romania had the top mark on all but uneven bars, where host Germany outscored the field. The Romanians were most impressive on beam, averaging 14.983 with 15.30 from Iordache ((ff, tucked full; double turn; switch-half; front aerial, ff layout; front kickover, back tuck; switch leap, back pike; side somi; ro, ff, triple twist; 6.8 Difficulty), 15.10 from Catalina Ponor (switch ring; double turn; Onodi, ff, two-foot layout; side aerial with leg held into front aerial, ff, layout; switch leap; Kochetkova; double pike), and 14.55 each from Diana Bulimar and Amelia Racea.

Olympic floor exercise champion Sandra Izbasa (Romania) scratched after warmups due to her nagging foot injury.

Iordache notched another first place in the all-around, scoring 59.75. Kim Bui took second over Romanian Diana Chelaru, 55.00-54.75. Iordache, a first-year senior, scored 60.15 as Romania topped France one week ago in Cholet.

Niamh Rippin, fourth, was the top gymnast for Great Britain, which also sent Ruby Harold, Jocelyn Hunt, Charlotte Lindsley and Kelly Simm

2011 European all-around bronze medalist Elisabeth Seitz, suffering from a foot injury, was fifth (11.95 on floor exercise). Bui, Oksana Chusovitina (who competed vault and beam in Ulm), Nadine Jarosch (bars only) and Seitz are all scheduled for the upcoming European championships, May 9-13 in Brussels.

"It was an uneven performance for us, as we certainly had mistakes," German head coach Ulla Koch said. "The team was probably still a little insecure due to the many recent injuries. Nevertheless, there were some very good performances."
