First-year senior Larisa Iordache impressed Saturday as Romania swept France in a friendly meet in Cholet.

Romania brought its strongest teams to Cholet in preparation for the upcoming European championships in Brussels. Iordache, Diana Chelaru, Sandra Izbasa and Catalina Ponor helped rally the Romanian senior squad to a 175.20-165.55 victory.

Minus Marine Brevet, France was well out of first but edged Romania on uneven bars by .4.

Individually Iordache impressed with 60.15, with scores of 15.10 on vault, 14.60 on uneven bars, 15.45 on balance beam and 15.00 on floor exercise. Izbasa edged France's Anne Kuhm, 56.60-56.35.

Ponor skipped floor exercise but had the top mark on balance beam with 15.550. France's Youna Dufournet led uneven bars with 14.900, while Iordache had the best scores on vault and floor exercise.

The Romanian junior squad also picked up a victory, 162.55-159.65, with four scores counting per each event.

Romanian Stefania Stanila, 14, scored 54.10 to take the junior all-around title over French gymnasts Louise Vanhille (53.65) and Clara Chambellant (53.25).

The competition served as a final warm up before the European championships in Brussels, May 9-13. This year's event is for team and individual apparatus for seniors, and team, all-around and apparatus for juniors.

"It was a very useful test for all four squads that competed," said Mircea Apolzan, general secretary of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation. "In an extraordinary atmosphere, amid a perfect organization, the gymnasts could emphasize training. Let's not forget that there is not much time left until the European championships, the first moment of truth on the road to London 2012."
