Gymnasts from China, Japan and Korea swept the gold medals in artistic gymnastics at the 12th Junior Asian Championships, which concluded Wednesday in Suphanburi, Thailand.

This year's event featured female gymnasts (born in 1997-1999) and male gymnasts (born 1994-1998) representing 13 Asian nations.

The Chinese women skipped the competition in favor of this weekend's Pacific Rim event in the United States. In their absence, Japan and Korea divided the women's gold medals in Suphanburi. The Japanese women defended their team and all-around titles win in Makuhari in 2010. Korea won the silver in the team competition, with Uzbekistan picking up the bronze.

Japan Nanase Ashikawa (54.100) and Azumi Ishikura (53.300) went 1-2 in the all-around, followed by Korea's Yun Narae (52.600). Yun added individual golds on vault, balance beam and floor exercise, while Ishikura won the uneven bars title. Ashikawa, who turned 15 in January, picked up the bronze medal on vault and silver on uneven bars.

The Chinese men topped Japan and Korea in the team contest. China's Ji Lian edged teammate Lin Chaopan for the all-around title, 87.000-86.850. 2010 Youth Olympic champion Yuya Kamoto placed third after several breaks (85.350).

In finals, Lin won floor exercise, pommel horse and high bar, and Kamoto won parallel bars. Korea's Lee Junho, fourth all-around, won floor exercise.

The Asian Junior Championships take place every two years. The 13th Junior Artistic Asian Championships, scheduled for March 2014 in Uzbekistan, will serve as a qualifier for the 2014 Youth Olympics Games.
