The FIG suspended Ukrainian rhythmic official Irina Deryugina through 2016 for various infringements, the federation announced Tuesday.

Deryugina, a former two-time world all-around champion, was suspended from the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Committee and stripped of her Brevet judging rating through 2016.

In addition, Deryugina, 50, is also banned from participation at any international event as a coach or delegation member through 2016.

The FIG stated that Deryugina violated points 1, 4, 5, 7, 9 and 10 of Article 5 of its Code of Discipline, which calls for sanctions if an individual:

1) Is in breach of the Statutes, Regulations, decisions, and directives written by the FIG;
4) Damages the image of gymnastics, the FIG, or its members through his behaviour, his words, or his deeds;
5) Adopts an unsportsmanlike behaviour,
7) Acts in such a way so as to influence the course or the result of the competitions in an improper way;
9) Behaves in an offensive way towards the FIG members, gymnasts, or FIG officials.
10) Seriously damages the dignity of a person or a group of persons, in any way whatsoever, in particular due to his colour, his race, a handicap, his sex, his religion or his ethnic origin;

The FIG did not provide any details of how Deryugina violated its Code of Discpline, and stated that she is free to appeal the decision.

As a gymnast, Deryugina won the world all-around title in 1977 and 1979. After her retirement, Deryugina started a gymnastics school in Kiev with her mother and coach, Albina Deryugina. Together they coached numerous champions, including 1992 Olympic champion Alexandra Timoshenko, 2001 world champion Tamara Yerofeyeva and reiging world champion Anna Bessonova.

Deryugina was one of six judges suspended after the 2000 European Championships in Zaragoza, Spain, where they were found to have purposely given low scores to Ukrainian Yelena Vitrichenko. Vitrichenko trained at a rival gymnastics school in Kiev.
