I think it is evident how USA Gymnastics' mistakes are. The americans now rarely compete internationally and many of them are either injured or burnt out. OTOH the russians have been competing regularly, gaining confidance for the upcoming competitions and Romania is building a strong team out of almost nothing.

The americans should have the right to compete a lot more among their competitors even if they are not at top form. They need the experience and gain confidance. It takes forever to see american gymnasts on the competion floor. Wrong Martha, wrong. Instead of keeping the gymnasts at closed doors at your dreadful training camps, you should free them and make them travel and compete.

I mean, It looks to me that Martha's vision of coaching is the same one from 1979. Remember Emilia Eberle's comments from three ago? USA Gymnastics' schedule really wears their gymnasts out in a way they cannot win internationally. They keep them at their home turf way too long working on too much conditioning and difficulty. Then, those skills are not even performed at the world stage when it counts because they like to play it safely. I feel sad about the US program.

Most definately the US womens teams need to compete more internationally. Marta doesn't let the women compete in the world cup competitions at all and thats a great opportunity to get international experience.

What do you think??
All very good points about the state of Gymnastics in the USA.. WHY does Marta not like our girls competing intl?? I for one would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see more competions in between the 2 big ones. It would be great if USA, Russia, Romania and China would get to compete more that just the Olympics and the worlds.. I mean other competitions also but these 4 have been at the top and I would just like to see more. That had always been my biggest complaint.. NOT ENOUGH.. SO What do you, the powers that be at INTL gymnast magazine think about all of the above??

I agree. I used to love the annual dual meets the U.S. used to host with the former Soviet Union and China et al.

Agreed. I do believe that gymnasts can lift their scores a little if the judges and audiences are familiar with them and know what to expect - and especially with their floor routine music. This makes those who compete internationally at world cup events more familiar to judges and audiences, and gives them themselves more international experience at the highest level. By avoiding world cup events the USA team does itself no favours.
