(7 votes, average 4.71 out of 5)

Argentinean standout Valeria Pereyra , 15, won the all-around title Sunday at the Junior South American Championships in Cúcuta, Colombia.

Valeria Pereyra (Argentina)

More than 150 gymnasts from 10 South American nations — Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela — gathered in Cúcuta for the competition, which includes junior and youth divisions for men and women.

In the junior division, Pereyra led Argentina to the team title over Brazil, 158.60-156.80. Host Colombia was third (151.00).

Pereyra scored 56.10 to win the all-around gold medal with ease, topping Brazilians Lorrane Santos (52.70) and Mariana Oliveira (51.95).

Born in 1996, Pereyra is age eligible for the 2012 Olympics but not for next month's world championships or Pan American Games. She has had a breakout year in 2011, winning the all-around titles at Germany's Pre-Olympic-Youth Cup in May and the Puerto Rico Cup in July. In August, she finished third all-around and first on bars at the senior South American championships.

Pereyra has improved rapidly over the past few years, said her coach, Daniela Conde .

"She's really an amazing gymnast," Conde told IG. "[She's] smart, hard-working and loves to do gymnastics — it's undoubtedly her greatest passion. In fact she started doing really great gymnastics at 11 years old, when before that she could not even make a giant on uneven bars or a back handspring on beam. She's progressing very fast and always strives to meet her goals. I am proud to be her coach — she is a great example to follow."

Continental power Brazil dominated the youth competition, winning the team title over Argentina and Ecuador. Brazilian gymnasts Milena Teodoro (52.00), Rebeca Andrade (51.60) and Ana Silva (49.80) swept the all-around medals.

Competition concludes Monday with the apparatus finals.

Live video from the competition is archived on ustream.tv .

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
