Komova Caps Comeback with Russian Cup Gold

Youth Olympic champion Viktoria Komova continued her successful comeback Saturday, winning the uneven bars title at the Russian Cup in Yekaterinburg.

Komova, 16, took the highest score yet of the women's competition with her 15.825 on uneven bars (inside Stalder-Shaposhnikova to Pak; inside Stalder-Shaposhnikova-half; inside-Stalder-blind to layout Jaeger; inside-Stalder full to Tkatchev; full-out). Komova won the all-around silver on Thursday in her first competition since undergoing ankle surgery in May.

World finalist Tatiana Nabiyeva was second, more than a full point behind at 14.825. All-around bronze medalist Yulia Belokobylskaya threw an inside-Stalder to Tkatchev for another bronze (14.550).

Two-time Olympian Anna Pavlova won the gold medal on vault (14.225), topping all-around champion Anna Dementyeva (14.813). First-year senior Maria Paseka won the bronze.

Denis Ablyazin, 19, edged world team member Andrei Cherkasov, 20, for the gold medal on men's floor exercise, 15.050-15.000. 2004 Olympic alternate Dmitry Barkalov, rumored to be headed to Belarus, was third (14.750).

World team member David Belyavsky tied specialist Andrei Perevoznikov for the title on pommel horse with 15.025.

On still rings, 2008 Olympain Konstantin Pluzhnikov earned a comfortable victory with 15.850. All-around bronze medalist Nikita Ignatyev (15.025) was second over all-around champion Emin Garibov (14.500).

Alexander Balandin, the top rings qualifier with 15.975, was absent after injuring his leg in Thursday's training.

Competition concludes Sunday in Yekaterinburg with the final day of event finals.
