Two-time world championships floor exercise finalist Steven Legendre of the U.S. told IG that he is heading to this weekend's World Cup in Moscow with a good chance to win gold on the event.

"My specific goal is to go out there and hit a nice, clean floor routine like I have been practicing for quite a few months now," he said. "I always go into a competition with the goal of winning, and this one is no different. Of course, the field of competitors is a very impressive one, but I think it is always possible if I do the gymnastics I am capable of doing."

Legendre, who turned 22 on May 5, said he has learned from his experience at the 2009 and 2010 World Championships. He finished eighth on floor exercise in both competitions.

"I feel my confidence has improved quite a bit overall, not just specifically in one area," he said. "I have slowly been learning to trust my gymnastics, especially since a lot of my routines were fairly new for me at worlds last year. I definitely feel more comfortable knowing I can go out and hit the sets I plan to do."

Legendre said his strategy for Moscow is consistent with other competitions, including the Visa (U.S.) championships and NCAA championships. He placed first on vault and sixth all-around at the 2010 Visa (U.S.) Championships; and second on floor exercise and second with his University of Oklahoma team at last month's NCAA championships.

"My plan has basically remained the same, and my preparations for meets don't really change very much," he told IG. "Fortunately I am freshly out of the NCAA season, so I am still in competition shape, which certainly makes things easier when preparing for such big events."
