Former Gymnast, 91, Recalls Olympic Disappointment

Former English gymnast Phyllis Hibbert, now 91, had planned on competing in the 1940 Olympic Games, but the second World War caused the event to be canceled. The Games resumed again in London in 1948, but by then Hibbert had lost her chance. "During the war, I went into the Air Force for five years and there was no training, so it was a long time without regular training, and I was a lot older by the time the war was over, so that was it."
