USA Dominates Jr. Pan Ams

The U.S. dominated the team and all-around competition at the Junior Pan American Championships, held Friday in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Los Angeles' Mattie Larson won the women's title over Michigan's Jordyn Wieber, third all-around at the 2007 U.S. Junior National Championships. Chelsea Davis of Austin, Texas, won the bronze.

Larsen, 15, earned the top scores of the day on vault (15.150), uneven bars (15.150) and floor exercise (14.750). Her lowest score of the day, 14.167 on balance beam, was seventh best.

Peng-Peng Lee led Canada to the silver medal ahead of Brazil and finished fifth all-around, less than three tenths from the podium. Lee earned the top score of the day, a 15.767 on balance beam. Teammate Dominique Pegg finished sixth.

The top gymnast from the host nation, Emely Monzon, finished 10th in the women's all-around.

Former WOGA gymnast Steven Legendre, now a freshman at the Univ. of Oklahoma, won the men's all-around. Californian Glen Ishino, younger brother of 2004 Olympic alternate Allyse Ishino, won the silver. Reigning U.S. junior national champion Alexy Bilozertchev won the bronze.

Competition continues Saturday in Guatemala with the first day of event finals.
