A fluke injury has forced Youth Olympic Games champion Viktoria Komova (Russia) out of this weekend's Voronin Cup in Moscow.

Russian superstar Viktoria Komova is out of this weekend's Voronin Cup after spraining her foot, Russian head coach Andrei Rodionenko said.

Komova tripped while walking through the gym, Rodionenko told a Russian news agency.

"This injury had no relation to training," Rodionenko said. "The gymnast was just moving through the gym."

Komova had been the headliner for the 17th Voronin Cup, which begins Thursday in Moscow. The competition is the one of the final international events of the season, and includes gymnasts from 23 nations.

Komova had been undefeated in her final year as a junior, winning the Russian national championships, the Junior European championships and the Youth Olympic Games. She turns 16 in January.

"She will begin rehabilitation shortly," Rodionenko said. "The recovery time is still unclear, according to the doctors. Now everything is in the hands of medicine."

World champion Aliya Mustafina will sit out the competition after a busy year, but Tatiana Nabiyeva, Anna Pavlova and junior Anastasia Sidorova will headline the Russian women's lineup.

For the first time, gymnastics fans will be able to log on to watch the competition via a live webcast.

On Wednesday, financier Andrei Kostin was re-elected president of the Russian Gymnastics Federation. Kostin, chairman and CEO of VTB Bank, was first elected four years ago.

I totally agree. Viktoria Komova is a superstar and I look forward to her senior debut. I hope she gets well soon and stays well. We do desperately need gymnasts with her 'presence' and skill at the next Olympics. I think the only two who can match her 'presence' are Mustafina and Liukin. Too bad about the vault factoring in so much in the scoring...Liukin can only come back as a specialist now.
