Colombian gymnasts Jossimar Calvo and Ginny Escobar combined for eight gold medals at this weekend's Junior South American Championships in Medellin, Colombia.

The host Colombians dominated the 19th Junior South American Championships, held this weekend in Medellin.

The Colombians captured 10 gold medals, including both team and all-around titles for men and women. Brazil won three golds, Argentina two and Ecuador one.

Ginny Escobar, 13, won the women's all-around title over Brazil's Stepany Da Silva and Colombian Dayana Ardila.

Ecuador's Maria Paula Rivas won vault, the only medal for Ecuador. Escobar shared the uneven bars title with Argentina's Camila Klesa and Brazil's Renata Tereza Dos Santos. On balance beam, Paloma Guerrero gave Argentina its second gold medal.

All-around bronze medalist Ardila closed the competition by winning women's floor exercise for the Colombian women's fourth gold at home.

"I am very happy that we met our goals in front of this wonderful audience," Escobar told a Colombian newspaper.

Jossimar Calvo, 16, led a Colombian sweep of the all-around medals, winning the gold over teammates Jhonny Muñoz and Juan Guillermo Escobar.

In finals, Calvo grabbed three more gold medals on floor exercise, parallel bars and high bar, and Muñoz won pommel horse. Brazil's Arthur Mariano won both still rings and vault.

Calvo, who admires Colombian Olympian Jorge Hugo Giraldo, thanked his coach Jairo Ruiz and the governor of his department.

"This is the result of daily effort and guidance of my coach, Jairo, and the support offered to us by Gov. William Villamizar," Calvo said.

Notably absent were gymnasts from Venezuela, which was unable to send teams due to financial problems.
