Belarus and Iceland are the only countries in Subdivision 4 of women's qualification, and neither are in contention for medals. When the competition draw for Rotterdam took place months ago, India and Singapore had been entered into the competition and drew Subdivision 4. But both nations scratched.  Alina Sotnikova (Belarus)
The tiny nation of Iceland, which has just a few hundred thousand people, sent two female gymnasts in Rotterdam: Thelma Rut Hermannsdóttir and Dominiqua Belányi. The Hungarian-Icelandic Belányi is coached by Hungarians Gabor Kiss and Eszter Horvath.
The once-strong Belarusian women's team has become abysmal over the past 10 years, since the last time it placed among the top 12. At the 2006 Worlds, Belarus was 24th, grabbing the very last spot to the 2007 Worlds. There it improved its rankings, but only by three spots, finishing 21st. This year's Belarusian squad shows promise with new faces, such as Lilia Khoang, who is of Asian descent. But Khoang, like her older teammates, has shown herself to be very inconsistent. First-year senior Anastasia Zaitseva had Belarus' best result in 2010, taking third on vault at the Paris World Cup. But Anastasia is not in the lineup, although twin sister Yevgenia is. Next Up in Subdivision 5:: Australia, Denmark, Lithuania and Greece.
