Recently crowned Dutch all-around champion Mayra Kroonen told IG that international success earlier this year inspired her to win her national title two weeks after she turned 22.

Kroonen, who turned 22 on June 6, won four gold medals at the Dutch Championships held June 19-20 in Heerenveen. She finished first all-around, first on vault and first on uneven bars; tied Marlies Rijken for first place on balance beam; and finished second on floor exercise.

Now preparing for the world championships that her country will host in Rotterdam in October, Kroonen said her good results at this spring’s European Championships and two World Cup meets inspired her for success in Heerenveen.

"After the Europeans I went to two World Cups, which made me more comfortable with my routines and the results boosted my confidence," she said. "The nationals were at the end of the season, so I could also use the experiences from the other competitions to perform at my best."

Kroonen and her teammates placed seventh in the team finals at the Europeans, held April 28-May 2 in Birmingham. She won four medals (including gold on floor exercise) at the World Cup of Maribor, Slovenia, held May 7-9; and won the bronze medal on floor exercise at the World Cup of Moscow, held May 14-15.

Despite her busy international agenda, Kroonen said concentration helped her win the Dutch all-around title.

"Although my body felt a little tired, I knew how to focus at the right time," she told IG. "I did my routines one by one, and didn't focus on anything else. For me that is the most important thing."
