Doctors say Wang Yan, who suffered a broken neck June 10 at the Chinese National Championships, is continuing to show improvement following surgery this week.

Wang underwent surgery in Shanghai, site of the national championships.

Chinese television showed video of Wang moving her left foot, and her doctor Xu Jiangguang said she has regained some hand motion.

During the team final, Wang (pictured at right at the 2006 National Championships) hit the bar with her feet on her dismount and crashed headfirst to the mat. She suffered fractures and dislocation of the second and third vertebrae.

Doctors had initially predicted that Wang, who was in a coma for several days following the accident, could be paralyzed for life.

"It's too early to say she has overcome the injury right now," Xu said. "Her condition is stable as we expected and we need another 72 hours to monitor her condition."
