![]() Canada's Kristina Vaculik was among the winners at the Tournament of Masters World Cup on Saturday in Cottbus.
The host nation won two titles Saturday at the Tournament of Masters World Cup in Cottbus, Germany. The three-day tournament is the second World Cup event of the season and the first featuring women. Five-time Olympian Oksana Chusovitina won women's vault for her adopted homeland, despite a fall on her Tsukahara 1 1/2. The 34-year-old mother is returning to competition after Achilles and shoulder surgeries in 2008 and 2009. Canada's Kristina Vaculik won the silver on vault and followed it with the gold medal on uneven bars (Tkatchev; Gienger; double front). Teammate Anysia Unick finished second with a clean routine (Jaeger; free-hip full to Pak; stuck double front) ahead of German Olympian Marie-Sophie Hindermann (break on Pak salto). Top qualifier Tatiana Solovyeva (Russia) caught her Jaeger close to the bar and fell on her double front, while Greek veteran Vassiliki Millousi caught her own Jaeger on her chest. German Olympian Marcel Nguyen won men's floor exercise (layout double-double mount). Greece's Stravros Kekelos, 19, mounted with a double-twisting front, immediate double front to place second. Slovenian Saso Bertonelj won his second World Cup title on pommel horse, defeating Japanese newcomer Koki Sakamoto. France's Samir Said Ait won the title on still rings, his first World Cup medal. Competition concludes Sunday with the remaining finals. External Link: Official Web Site 2010 Tournament of Masters

... Many gifted Russian gymnasts like Tatiana Solovyeva are inconsistent. Their coaches should start doing something to raise their morales. |
