Upstart Viktoria Komova (Voronezh) won the all-around title at the Russian Championships for Women, which began Wednesday in Penza.

Komova, who turned 15 in January, defeated European champion Ksenia Semyonova (Khimki-Novomoskovsk) by nearly 3 points. 2008 Olympian Svetlana Klyukina (Severodvinsk) finished third.

Komova earned the two highest scores of the competition, 16.225 on uneven bars and 15.425 on balance beam. Her scores on vault (14.675) and on floor exercise (14.900) were the second best of the day.

Komova is the daughter of 1986 Goodwill Games champion Vera Kolesnikova. She will be eligible for international senior competition in 2011.

Defending champion Aliya Mustafina missed the competition because of a training injury.

Two-time Olympian Anna Pavlova made a strong comeback after tearing her ACL in November 2008. Pavlova competed all four events, and took the top score on vault (14.900).

2008 Olympian Yekaterina Kramarenko earned the second-highest score on uneven bars (14.500).
