Mustafina Wins Gymnasiade All-Around

Russian national champion Aliya Mustafina won the women's all-around title Wednesday at the 2009 Gymnasiade in Doha, Qatar.

Mustafina, 15, topped teammate Tatiana Nabiyeva, also 15, by eight tenths of a point to win the gold. Italy's Andrea Foti won the bronze.

The Russian team (Mustafina, Nabiyeva, Anna Dementyeva, Valeria Sviridova and Ramila Musina) easily won the team title over Italy and Ukraine.

Nabiyeva and Mustafina finished 1-2 at the 2008 Junior European Championships in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The pair will be eligible for senior competition in 2010.

Competition continues Friday with the first day of event finals.
