U.S. national champion Bridget Sloan is beefing up her routines as she prepares for the World Championships in London next week.

Sloan, 17, who was named to the U.S. world team along with Rebecca Bross, Ivana Hong and Kayla Williams, put the full twist back in her double layout off uneven bars, and also added an extra turn on floor exercise and a jump on balance beam.

"Every workout is another step closer to where I want to be," Sloan said.

Considered a favorite to win a medal in the all-around, Sloan said the thought of a top-three finish has crossed her mind.

"I have [thought about it], but at the same time, I'm also sticking with the present." she said. "I know that I still have a long journey ahead of me."

Though she has been training an Amanar vault (2.5-twisting Yurchenko), Sloan will most likely do a double-twisting Yurchenko in London, according to her coach, Marvin Sharp.

"Bridget won the all-around at the verification a few days ago and is just working on tidying up a few things for London," Sharp told IG. "Hopefully, all will go well in workouts, podium training, etc., and we will be ready for a good competition."

Sharp said that Sloan and Bross are likely to compete in the all-around, while the remaining berths will be named later. There is no team competition at these Worlds, and three slots are available for each country on each event. U.S. natonal team coordinator Marta Karolyi said she has yet to decide on whether to add a third all-around gymnast or enter gymnasts on individual apparatus.

Kytra Hunter and Mackenzie Caquatto were named alternates to the U.S. team to London.

Gawd, I sure hope she's working on those ugly wrists, too.

Congratulations. Interesting, so they can sneak in a third all-arounder this year. I do miss the days of three all-arounders in a field of 36 (instead of two in 24 and 3-up-3-count for team competition). With the current limited fields both the viewers and the gymnasts are getting ripped off (you train all these years and get to compete one event).
