Featured in and on the cover of the July/August 2019 issue of International Gymnast magazine, rising Ukrainian star Anastasia Bachynska told IG that her fifth-place all-around performance at this spring’s European Championships in Szczecin was eye-opening and inspiring.

“The senior championships in Szczecin, Poland, was my debut,” she says. “I wanted to perform as well as possible. Getting into the final is proof that we are doing everything right! And fifth place certainly pleased me and the coaches.”

Given Bachynska’s introspective view in training, she was not sure how she would fare against the rest of the continent’s best in Szczecin.

“When you actively train yourself every day, you devote yourself to gymnastics and you don’t have time to compare yourself with others,” says Bachynska, who also finished seventh on balance beam. “You just give yourself as much as possible in training. Performing at competitions is the time when you can show yourself and see other athletes. And I am glad that I was able to adequately perform.”

“I saw the real level of gymnasts who received medals, who understood how to compete and climb the pedestal,” said Bachynska, who went on to finish first on floor exercise at the European Games in Minsk in June. “Now I am working on it. I am making my program more complex, and I am honing my skills.”
