Mikulak Takes First-Day Lead At USAs
(1 vote, average 5.00 out of 5)

Sam Mikulak (USOTC) took the first-day lead at the U.S. Championships in Boston. He was followed by Akash Modi (Stanford) and Allan Bower (Oklahoma).

Modi hit all six routines, and stuck his tucked full-out off parallel bars.

Bower was steady and also hit every routine. He had three stuck landings: Kasamatsu-11/2 twist vault, double pike off p-bars and a full-twisting double layout off high bar.

Mikulak had falls on high bar (layout Kolman) and pommel horse.

Defending champion Yul Moldauer (Oklahoma) had a rough day and placed sixth. He also had a fall on pommels. Moldauer revived his triple-twisting double layout off high bar, which he performed as an age-group gymnast.
