Moscow's Artur Dalaloyan won the men's all-around title on Friday evening as the 2017 Russian National Championships continued in Kazan.

Moscow's Artur Dalaloyan won the men's all-around title on Friday evening as the 2017 Russian National Championships continued in Kazan.

Dalaloyan, the top gymnast during Wednesday's qualification, scored a combined 167.930 over both days to win his first national title. He was fifth all-around at last year's national championships and eighth in 2015. Dalaloyan trains at Moscow's famed Dinamo club under coaches Alexander Kalinin, Vladimir Kholdushkin and Sergei Shapkin.

Third after the first day, 2016 Olympic team alternate Nikita Ignatyev (Leninsk-Kuznetsky) outscored the field on Friday to take the all-around silver (166.495) with the top score on Friday. Vladislav Polyashov (Cheboksary), second to Dalaloyan on Wednesday, won the bronze (165.697).

The competition in Kazan will help determine the team for next month's European championships in Romania. Russia's top stars are likely to skip the Europeans this year in order to recover from injury or illness, and to give some younger gymnasts more competitive experience. Only two Olympians competed in Wednesday's competition, David Belyavsky and Nikita Nagornyy, with neither doing the all-around.

Dalaloyan, who turns 21 on April 26, was a member of Russia's silver medal-winning team at the 2014 Junior European Championships in Sofia, where he also placed fourth on still rings and seventh on vault. He said he was pleased with his results while competing under the new 2017-2020 Code of Points.

"I'm happy with the victory and the total score, as this was the first competition with the new rules," he said Friday. "To accommodate the new Code, I had to change a lot. There is a growing difficulty of combinations that have me putting elements in an uneasy sequence. All this collectively had an impact, so if earlier it was possible to score 90 points (in the all-around), now 84-85 points is quite a lot."

Competition continues Saturday in Kazan with the first day of apparatus finals.
