Does anyone know what kind of pain relief is provided to gymnasts who injure themselves during competition? I'm especially referring to the more significant meets like World's and the Olys, and cases in which the injury forces the athlete to withdraw from competition. Ex. Kerri Strug in 96 - she was visibly in a lot of pain (admittedly, I don't know how long that persisted). In any case, are team doctors allowed to administer anything strong (if anything at all)? And by 'strong', I really do mean anything strong enough to alleviate a high degree of pain.

I really think Heather tried to be a gymnast but was too mediocre to reach any kind of success, that's the reason of his bitterness to almost all gymnasts, specially Olympic champion Shawn Johnson. Thaz all :)

What do...

I could have sworn there was a thread about new apparatus but couldn't find one. Please feel free to merge if you know of one, mods. Thx.

What do you think about the addition of an 'artistic' apparatus? Perhaps a 2nd floor routine that focuses purely on artistry/dance and no tumbling? Do you think the time required to train a 5th apparatus (floor or otherwise) would detract from the sport or do you think it would be beneficial?

In your opinion, are there enough elements to choose from for such a routine?

As it stands right now, the code seems to reward power elements over artistry. Do you think introducing a separate element with a focus entirely on artistry would unequally privilege those athletes who are naturally graceful and tip the balance heavily in favour of artistry? (Understandably, most athletes require dance training to perform artistically, but there are others who are rather graceless and whom training would likely not save.) Or, would an artistic apparatus be the antithesis of an event like vault?

Pros/cons? Other ideas? Discuss.
