Why can't I attract my favorite trolls anymore?! I mean, everyone here keeps writing such interesting and thoughtful posts. But what happened to all the bullsh-t that my favorite trolls post? I'm not sure I can tolerate this void any longer since I'm a prince troll myself. Things just aren't right here! Not even punki-khorki visits my profile anymore! What does that say?!

I'm going to spare myself and everyone else the pain by just disappearing from this board for good. What's the point of contributing to the forum if I can't even stir up a good troll every now and then? It's making my life so empty and dark!

I shall part with my head held high, knowing real trolls exist elsewhere. Everyone else can just go about their merry business without me!

So 1992 was the last time the republics of the former USSR competed together (minus Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, which competed independently). However, if they had competed separately, things could've been very interesting. At the time, Ukraine was by far the strongest force on the Soviet team. Many national team members were from Ukraine. Other countries like Belarus and Russia were already starting to lag behind. So as an independent team, Ukraine definitely could've challenged for the team title.

But perhaps in the individual rounds, things could've been different with gymnasts from the major republics.

It's worth noting that there really wasn't a choice in this matter. Since the USSR officially stopped existing in December 1991, there wasn't enough time for each republic to establish their own National Olympic Committee, so they were given the opportunity to compete as the Unified Team. The Baltic republics didn't hesitate to go off on their own since they achieved independence the earliest.

I decided to start this thread because in our world, so many gymnasts retire because of "injury"! I can give a few examples (Andreea Acatrinei of Romania)...but what concerns me is what happends to them?? Where are they now? What does the future hold for them?
Some more examples:Aluisa Lacusteanu, Alexandra Ghita, Roxana Stan, Floarea Leonida, Claudia Presecan, Yekaterina Kramarenko, etc.
Any ideas, reasons, suggestions?? Please feel free to add any info you like! [I know I said mainly Romanians, but under Forminte's power, if you want to say that, so many gymnasts have just GONE! Alina Stanculescu, Steliana Nistor, Elena Chiric, Loredana Sucar, Andreea Grigore, Simona Pauca (not under Forminte), Dana Druncea, etc]
Any info...please add!:)

Forgive me if there have been many a similar thread before, but I was bored the other day and began making lists of some of my favorite things from certain gymnasts. Here's my (first!) list of greatest hits:

Johnson: arabian and layout to 2 feet on bb, double double, Ray off ub
Liukin: Geinger, Ono
Williams: stuck cold DTY. LOVE. and even though the form kinda sucked, her triple full side pass was fairly awesome.
Sloan: her opening floor pose! piked full in, Shaposh
Phelps: her bb acro series from '96
Strug: the vault heard round the world, planche on bb
Tweddle: her entire ub set. It's completely insane. Do you think she knows that?
Domi M: her '96 fx. Just seems so classic.
Mitchell: her front aerial to front tuck on bb. Plus the rest of her beam.
Miller: I always liked her bars.
He: That nutty Jaegar release combo
Kupets: for some reason I loved her NCAA bb dismount senior year and her tumbling run that ended in a Shushunova. I also loved her bars as an elite. And her NCAA vault was awesome.
Korbut: her flip! it makes me sad that thing is against the rules now, because it is so amazingly cool.
Lily Pod: her floor was just incredible.
Jordan Moore: Tchatev. So high.
Pezsek: her bb at Nats and her double layout on fx
Milosevic: her second? third? tumbling run on fx in 96...the one that went ro, whip, whip, whip, twist, punch front...just awesome.
Hong: bb mount, double front
Lepennec: Def! love.
Memmel: Dos Santos. Sheer tenacity.
Dawes: her bb, making straddle jumps exciting...
Hatch: DTY
Yang Bo: everything she ever did on beam.
Mo: her named skill on ub.
Patterson: her bb dismount, when stuck. Her back with a full early in her career, when her technique was really interesting.
I'm going to think of about a zillion more.

Introducing 5 Questions with the Texas Dreams “Dream Team”! The “Dream Team” is made up of an insane number of Elite and Hopes Gymnasts who train over 30 hours a week with world champion Kim Zmeskal-Burdette and her husband, Chris Burdette. While I’m sure you haven’t heard of all of these gymnasts, I truly believe that many of them will go on to become some of the greatest National Team Members, World Champions, Olympians and College Gymnasts that our nation has ever seen. Texas Dreams is the home of 2004 National Team Members Brittany Magee and Meghan Blair and 2008 Olympic Training Squad Member Chelsea Davis.

Feel free to direct a question towards one specific gymnast; just remember to include general questions as well. But remember guys: Don’t be rude, these girls are 11-14 years old. You have to feel really crappy about yourself to be rude to a preteen girl.

To give you an idea of what training is like, here’s a conditioning video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8P-OVxuc5I

Here are the gymnasts participating:

Allison Cary- 11 year old Allison is a Hopes gymnast and placed 8th at the U.S. Challenge. Here’s her beam routine from the 2009 Region 3 Elite Qualifier. Does her mount look familiar? http://www.gymnastike.org/videos/cov...ison-cary-1330

Reagan Campbell- 11 year old Reagan Campbell placed 5th in the U.S. Challenge Hopes division this year with a competitive 13.4 on beam and floor. Here’s her floor from the 2009 Region 3 Elite Qualifier.
http://www.gymnastike.org/videos/cov...-campbell-1340

Napualani Hall- Pua, (as she’s known in the gym) who just turned 14, has previously competed for CGA, GAGE and Hawaiian Island Twisters and transferred to T.D. earlier this year. While towering over her teammates at 5’3, Pua placed 15th at the Visa National Championships earning her a spot at Pan Ams Selection Camp.

inspired from a note in another thread. certain gymnasts have a weak event but some prove to at least have a little something that stands out on that event.

Shawn Johnson - weakest event is bars but double double laidout dismount is to die for seriously, and i don't even like her.

Pavlova - also weak bar worker but that pak salto is unquestionable...completely laid out.

oddly enough I think previous codes wouldn't have been so hard on these two as bar workers. pavlova's is fantastic except for the obsession with handstands. it brings to mind what tim said about nastia trying to be too perfect and then what he said about pavlova just having fun up on the bars. actually pavlova's double layout of bars is second to mccools in my boook.

Very nervous — I think I cried.-- Alicia Sacramone, ON HOW SHE FELT BEFORE HER FIRST GYMNASTICS MEET

LEICESTER — Olympic silver medalist Alicia Sacramone visited area gymnastics clubs yesterday to promote the Tyson American Cup, which will be held at the DCU Center in Worcester on March 6.

Greeted at Giguere Gymnastics on Route 9 by a sea of screaming elementary school girls, the 21-year-old Winchester native told her audience that they should put tickets to the prestigious international invitational on their wish lists for Christmas.

Answering questions that ranged from what her favorite color is (blue) to what she thinks whenever she falls (“Oh, man!”), Sacramone spent almost an hour with the young gymnasts at Giguere signing autographs, including a flag the gymnastics center has had since 1984, adding her name to those of a number of well-known gymnasts who have visited.

No doubt, Sacramone was just as popular during her stops at other area clubs yesterday, including Over The Top Gymnastics on McKeon Road in Worcester and the Gymnastics Learning Center in Shrewsbury.

A member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team who was known for her powerful vaults, Sacramone retired from gymnastics after the Games in Beijing, but since has returned to the sport and plans to start competing again next year. Her goal is to compete in the 2012 Olympics, and then work toward becoming a fashion designer.

Currently a business major at Brown University in Providence, Sacramone said she’s looking to transfer to a school in the Boston area to reduce the travel time between training and school, which are tough enough to juggle without the added time behind the wheel.

Sacramone began gymnastics when she was 8 and started competing at age 10. When asked how she felt before her first meet, she laughed and answered “very nervous — I think I cried.”

A former USA Gymnastics Sportswoman of the Year, Sacramone has come a long way since that first meet. She trains three hours a day, but when working toward the 2008 Olympics, she put in seven hours a day, which she admits sometimes became “repetitive and boring,” but it needed to be done if she wanted to do well.

At competitions, Sacramone manages to keep a calm head on her shoulders by listening to mellow music on her iPod and thinking, “It’s just another gym, you’re prepared and ready to do it.”

Growing up, Sacramone’s idol was Dominique Moceanu, a member of the 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning team. It was clear from her visits yesterday that Sacramone, too, has become an idol to many young girls, who also have high hopes and deep passion for gymnastics.
