Jordyn's graduating this month, and it has been announced that she's going to UCLA. Does anyone know if she's going to UCLA in the fall or if she'll defer enrollment? She seems so serious about her training, since her and John want her to be back for Classics or Nationals. Do you think she'll defer her enrollment to stay in Michigan and train with Geddert? Or do you think she'll leave the National Team and elite scene to go help coach for the Bruins? Another option would be that she goes out to Los Angeles and trains at a gym out there, like AOGC or Gym Max. I think that's a plausible option, but she has always been so dedicated to John and her training with him.

There has been several great champions in gymnastics over the years. However Very few of them has managed to stay on top for a long period of time. Who has had the longest reign at the top before a defeat?

Off hand I can only date back to modern gymnastics so off im gonna say

1.Miller- all of 93 through the majority of 94 only coming in 2nd twice which is still pretty damn good

2.Podkopayeva-started her win late in 95 then went on to win Europeans and the Olympics, It should be noted those are the only competitions she competed in making her reign a little less spectacular then miller who competed through 2 full seasons

3.??

So I know that there is a thread for the all around, but I haven't seen one yet for event finals. So if you have any predictions, then put them here!...

So I know that there is a thread for the all around, but I haven't seen one yet for event finals. So if you have any predictions, then put them here!

For vault I am going to have to go with a wildcard, MyKayla Skinner. In my opinion she is a wildcard because she has a very good chance of not being chosen for the team. I mean lets get real, there are about a dozen girls from the USA that could easily be named to this team. So for me, any American predicted to be a World Champ is a wildcard for me. But with a Cheng and Amanar, I believe that Skinner has a great chance of winning vault finals because no one in the world at the moment has the difficulty on both vaults in the way she does.
Cheng- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43KpvZsoOzw
Amanar- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpyQP6c9pL4

For bars, it's going to be a battle between the Chinese and the Russians. But right now I am obsessing with Huang Huidan's routine. She just won the Chinese Nationals and her bar routine is one of the most stunning that I have ever seen. It's not very flashy and she could have a more difficult routine, with her's being at a 6.6, but she has a few months to upgrade and this routine just looks like a winner to me. The thing with Huang is that she is very inconsistant and could very easily not be chosen for the Chinese team.
Huang Huidan bars- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71hXz_GBLAg

For beam, I think that it will be a battle between Larisa Iordache and Katelyn Ohashi. Ohashi has the potential to be better than Iordache because of her clean work and degree of difficulty. BUt Iordache has a much greater chance of hitting her routine and making all of her combinations, where as Ohashi can be inconsistent and she hardly ever hits her routine to its potential. Plus Ohashi is injured at the moment with her shoulder and may not be able to come back in time for World Championships.
Ohashi- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7iss7XgMLI
Iordache- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnsmQI2YHw8

For floor this was an obvious choice for me. No one this year has come close to the difficulty and atistry level of this woman. I am of course talking about Ksenia Afanasyeva. She is just getting better with age and she looks better than she ever has before on floor. This year, I don't feel the need to hold my breathe when she goes into her final pass and you just know that she is going to kill her routine. She will also have a new routine for the University Games and Worlds so look out for Queen Afanasyeva!
Afanasyeva- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz2x06Zjw3g

Other Contenders-

Vault- Maria Paseka, Giulia Steingruber, Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney(If she comes back in time and is chosen to be a one event specialist)

Bars- Aliya Mustafina, Victoria Komova(Maybe), and so many Chinese gymnasts

Beam- Victoria Komova(Maybe), Ksenia Afanasyeva, Aliya Mustafina, Anastasia Grishina, Diana Bulimar

Floor- Diana Bulimar, Larisa Iordache, Simone Biles, Jordyn Wieber(Maybe)

This competition takes place today. It should be exciting to see some of the top Romanian and Russian juniors in competition together.

MAG gymnasts: http://artisticalugano.ch/trofeo-int...sti%202013.pdf

Maria Bondareva has replaced Kharenkova alongside Anastasia Dmitrieva and Viktoria Kuzmina for Russia. The Romanians are sending Andreea Munteanu and Andreea Iridon.

I am excited to see Dayana Hryhoryeva who made bars finals at last year's Junior Euros and looks to be a great hope for Belarusian gymnastics. It should also be interesting to see Pilar Rubagotti who is one of the youngest competitors (2000 born), trains under the same coach as Ferrari and seems to be one of Italy's most talented younger gymnasts.

I hope we get to see some videos from this competition. I know in the past it has been broadcast on TV.

I'm currently obsessing with Marta Pihan's floor from London. She was the second alternate, and missed finals by 0.1.

There are lots of discussions about gymnasts having meltdown under pressure and ended up making huge mistakes during the competition, but I am wondering if there are any 'memorable', heartbreaking emotional breakdowns like being in tears AFTER the routines that are hard for the audience to forget? [And the audience have a meltdown at the same time, watching the gymnasts' meltdown!]

I must admit these post-competition meltdowns would always leave a big impression on my mind:
* Boginskaya closed her eyes for few seconds in disbelief (about her low BB score) before ending up in tears after Barcelona AA
* Pavlova in silent tears after Athens AA
* Komova covered her face with the huge flood of tears after London AA

I struggle to think of any male gymnasts crying crazily after a mistake-filled routine. Didn't Diego Hypolito cry badly after Beijing FX EF?

I also wonder if there are any gymnasts crying uncontrollably but happily right after a medal-winning performance?

Of things that I think all gymnastics fans badly wanted to happen at some point but all never did, which do you think is the biggest dissapointment for you personally that it didnt happen. Is it:

1. Daniela Silivas's failed quest for a major AA title.

2. Yang Bo never getting the World or Olympic beam gold due to an unfortunate error each time.

3. The Sydney Olympic WAG debacle

4. The great Dmitri Bilosertev never getting the Olympic AA gold (first due to boycott in 84, then a fluke fall in 88)

5. The great Svetlana Khorkina never getting her Olympic AA gold in 3 attempts, coming agonizingly closest at her last.

6. The great Cheng Fei not getting her individual Olympic Gold at home on something in 2008.

7. Dominique Dawes never getting a major AA medal or individual World or Olympic gold.

8. Mostepanova and Omelianchek both never getting to compete at an Olympic Games.

9. Milo never getting the World or Olympic AA title she was so close to numerous times

10. Amanar never getting the World or European AA title she was so close to numerous times

11. The 9 time World Champion (including team titles) Gina Gogean never getting an Oly Gold.

12. The great Shannon Miller never getting the Olympic AA gold she narrowly missed in 92, and was in contention for again in 96 on home soil before problems on floor.

13. Rebecca Bross missing out on the Olympics after being the top U.S gymnast much of the quad all after a sickening injury on vault in 2011.

14. The very popular (atleast on this forum) Viktoria Komova failing to win a major AA title or Olympic Gold of any kind.

15. The 1980 and 1984 Olympic boycotts in general, and all the great gymnastics, competitions, battles, and legendary gymnasts who were denied.

16. Something not listed above.
