China Takes Two in Maribor
In the women's competitions, world vault champion Cheng Fei placed first on vault by 0.912 over co-silver medalists Erika Morel (France) and Veronica Wagner (Sweden). Cheng's teammate, Li Ya, easily won uneven bars over Jana Sikulova of the Czech Republic. Li's routine, which featured her trademark Jaeger to mixed-grip to immediate Jaeger, had a 7.5 A-panel score.
The Chinese men won two medals, but the event champions came from four different countries: Yevgeny Bogonosyuk of Ukraine (floor exercise), Krisztian Berki of Hungary (pommel horse) and Georgallas Irodotos of Cyprus and Regulo Carmona of Venezuela (still rings).
The competition concludes Sunday, with event finals for balance beam and floor exercise (women); and vault, parallel bars and high bar (men).
