Horton, Johnson Win American Cup

Americans Jonathan Horton and Shawn Johnson survived a mistake-filled competition to win the American Cup, held Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla.

Horton, the defending champion, hit every routine to top Japan's Nakase Takuya by .6. World all-around bronze medalist Fabian Hambüchen of Germany, who finished first in Friday's qualification, fell on rings and parallel bars.

Johnson also won by a margin of .6 over teammate Natasha Kelley. Johnson missed a back pike on balance beam and Kelley fell on her Hindorff on uneven bars. Bronze medalist Elsa Garcia (Mexico) was the only female who did not fall at least once.
