Three Defend Titles as Men's Europeans Conclude

Three gymnasts defended their individual event titles Sunday as the Men's
European Championships concluded in Lausanne. Krisztian Berki (Hungary)
Hungary's Krisztian Berki (pommel horse), Slovenia's Mitja Petkovsek (parallel
bars) and Germany's Fabian Hambüchen (high bar) each successfully defended the
individual titles they had won in Amsterdam in 2007.
Petkovsek, the co-world champion on parallel bars, won his third consecutive
European title on the event.
Two gymnasts reclaimed previous titles. Russia's Anton Golotsutskov won the
floor exercise title, two years after he had won it the 2006 Europeans in
Volos, Greece. Dutchman Yuri van Gelder, the 2005 European champion on rings,
won that event again.
Poland's Leszek Blanik, 31, won his first European title on vault to go with
his world title from 2007. Blanik stuck both his 7.0-value vaults.
Milan, Italy will organize the 2009 European Championships for all-around and
individual events.
