Yang, Jiang Win Chinese Titles

Yang Wei and Jiang Yuyuan captured the all-around titles Friday at the Chinese National Championships in Tianjin.

Yang, the 2006 and 2007 world all-around champion, easily won the title over Feng Zhe and Teng Haibin.

Jiang, 15, scored 63.300 to top defending champion Yang Yilin (62.550) and Deng Linlin (61.600).

Jiang scored 16.100 on vault with a 2 1/2 twisting Yurchenko and 16.150 on uneven bars. She clinched the title with a 15.600 performance (6.3 A Panel) on floor exercise. On balance beam, one of her weaker events, she scored 15.750.

"[Hitting beam] will certainly give me more confidence and I hope after these championships I will become better and better," said Jiang, who scored 15.200 on the event in Wednesday's qualification.

Yang, the top qualifier, lost the title with a fall on uneven bars on her transition move. Though she retained her maximum 7.7 A-Panel score, the judges took eight minutes to come up with her final score of 15.950. Yang scored 17.050 on the event in Wednesday's qualification competition.

More than 400 athletes from 23 teams are taking part in the championships. Competition concludes Saturday with the individual finals.

Jiang Yuyuan is not from Hubei! She was born in Guangxi Province and now represents Zhejiang.

i think the chinease are being overscored. most likley there are chinease gymnast at those competitions scoring them. the recent other competition wil and outburst of17's is to high. i have a feeling at the olympics there will be some sort of judging scandall. or a bit of "favoritism" going on.

there is always favoritism in any sport especially for the host team. the scores are pretty high but the level of gymnastics is high also. we will see at the olympics. its kind of like before sydney when elise ray had super high scores during the trials and at the games it was no where near.

I'm wondering if any of the Chinese gymansts or athletes in general have been affected by the recent earthquake. Such tragedy months away from the Olympics.

I hope everyone along with their families are ok.

The Chinese gymnasts are ravishing and captivating!

I think it is presumptuous for people to suggest that overscoring and favoritism will transpire at the Olympics. The impeccable technique and poignant artistry of the Chinese gymnasts has been undermined and subject to stringent scoring for numerous years.

I am hoping that the IOC and FIG have taken the necessary steps to avoid another Paul Hamm scoring fiasco or the blatant overscoring and favoritism that the American women benefitted from in Atlanta.
