International GYMNAST Magazine: World Cup Concludes in Maribor World Cup Concludes in Maribor ================================================================================ Amanda Turner on April 27, 2008 Canada, the Netherlands and North Korea each won another title Sunday at the final day of the 41st Salamunov Memorial, a World Cup competition in Maribor, Slovenia. Canadian national champion Kristina Vaculik won balance beam over qualification leader Sanne Wevers (Netherlands). The Canadian women won five medals in Maribor, the most of any nation. Colombian Olympic qualifier Nathalia Sanchez won her first World Cup medal with the bronze on beam, edging uneven bars champion Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs (Canada) by .1. Dutch veteran Suzanne Harmes won the floor exercise title. On Saturday teammate Yuri van Gelder won still rings. North Korea's Ri Se Gwang won men's vault, as female compatriot Hong Un Jong did on Saturday. In the close final, France's Yann Cucherat won parallel bars over Uzbekistan's Anton Fokin. Slovenia's Mitja Petkovsek, the reigning world and European champion, settled for third. The host nation ended on a high note, however, with a 1-2 finish on high bar from Aljaz Pegan and Dimic Alen.
