Chinese superstar Cheng Fei won two gold medals, but Japan's Makoto Okiguchi interrupted the host nation's golden streak on the first day of apparatus finals at the "Good Luck Beijing" tournament, held Saturday at the site of next year's Olympic Games.

Cheng opted not to perform maximum difficulty, but still won her two best events comfortably. On floor exercise, she opened with a piked full-in and dismounted with a 2 1/2 twist to top Americans Bridget Sloan and Chellsie Memmel.

Cheng, the only woman in history to win three world titles on vault, competed a Yurchenko double-full and a Yurchenko half-on, layout front half off. Second was North Korea's Hong Su Jong, who also watered down from her usual difficulty, performing a Yurchenko double-full and a Yurchenko half-on, piked front half off. Great Britain's Marissa King won the bronze.

Okiguchi won the floor title in a tie break with Canada's Brandon O'Neill. Top qualifier Fabian Hambüchen of Germany won the bronze. No Chinese men qualified to the floor final.

Lu Bin brought China its third gold of the day and fifth overall by winning pommel horse. Korea's Kim Soo Myun won the silver ahead of top qualifier Daniel Popescu (Romania).

Spread over three days, the event finals format mirrors that of next year's Olympic Games. Competition continues Sunday with the men's still rings and vault and the women's uneven bars.
